The month of October has been crazy. Crazy busy and crazy good. I was lucky enough to be nominated employee of the month, Marrick was placed in a Hallmark mailer, Quinton is on the air in a Hen House commercial and hanging larger than life in all the stores. Oh and I had my 25th class reunion, wow. I will post pics from that later. Here are some new family photos too.

This next week I will be moving into the client services side of the advertising agency I work for. I will be working directly with the clients as an account executive. This will mean hard conversations, more travel, and a ton of email! I hope it also means I grow as an advertising agency employee. I’ve always loved the interaction with the clients, so I think this will fill a need in me. I’m also really excited to learn the “business” side of the agency. After being on the creative teams for 10 years, I think this is a good time to evolve. It seems every ten years there is a new evolution in my life, I guess this is it for this decade!
I am nervous though. Nervous I will struggle at driving the accounts. Nervous I won’t be able to be “creative” anymore. Nervous I will lose work/life balance because the new job is so demanding. But mostly I’m just excited. Excited to learn something new and grow as a person. Excited to learn even more about our company and industry. Excited to bring my experience and expertise to a new department.
I have to say thanks to PlattForm for all I have learned over the last 10 years. (Has it really been 10 years?) The opportunities I’ve had have been amazing; I could never have learned everything from a text book. And it’s been really great having different positions within the same company. From video editor, to producer/director, to interactive video producer/site manager, to brand strategist … wow, what a great array of on-the-job training! That’s one of the great things about PlattForm, they are open to giving people new opportunities.
So here’s to a new evolution, may it be beneficial to all!
Yes, you did not get an accountability post yet this week, I didn’t want to make everyone jealous! I’ve lost a total of 15 lbs. so far, my body fat has dropped 4.5%, my waist is now measuring 28, and I have to go buy new clothes this weekend … I don’t have a thing to fit me anymore. Woo hoo for me!
Did I just hear the bullshit alarm going off? I running to the basement to take cover.
I first met Jordan when she was 14, her father introduced us after having dated for a while. A short 6 months after, I was her step-mother. Thank you Jordan for never being a brat or a bitchy teen-age girl. You don’t know how much I appreciate never once hearing, your not my mother! During the high-school years things could have been rough, but you were a good kid and only a few times worried the crap out of us. I never found drugs, cigarettes or alcohol on you, so I’m now convinced you are smarter than most! Either you hide rebellion/experimentation well, or you never did those nasty things to begin with. I will choose to believe the second! Thanks for bringing so much laughter and fun into our house while you lived here. It was a true pleasure to call you my daughter.
Over the years you have been trying to find your way and I’m sure you will. You are smart, sweet and talented and just need to figure out what path is right for you. You just turned 21 and have so much to look forward to, stay smart and sweet and trust that good things will happen if you believe in yourself. Thanks for all the great memories, and here’s to many more. It is a true pleasure to call you my daughter! Love you miss Jordan. Mama Bethie

Sissy turns 21 this week. For some reason this is hitting me hard … how can she be 21? HAPPY BIRTHDAY JORDAN, I LOVE YOU. XOXO
We also had the pleasure of watching Isaac (Andrew & Anna Booth’s baby) on Friday night. Marrick loved it and even had to sleep on the floor next to the bed. Isaac was such a sweetie he made me want another baby, thank goodness Quinton has had the surgery!
We spent the day at Deanna Rose, of course it was a lovely day for Mr. Marrick.
Me, 1 more pound. Coming off slow, but I had a rough week with headaches and such. I’m going to test hoodia this week and see if it really works as an appetite suppressant. I’ll let ya’ know if it helps at all.
Are you freakin’ kidding me? 1,200 calories a day, 5 workouts, only 1 “free” meal and I gain a pound. WHAT! Now why does this make me want to eat more instead of less? Guess I have to step it up a notch this week. Dang I hate trying to be fit. AURGH.
My little ladies man dancing at the Jeremy and Kyla’s wedding. You should have seen him bustin’ a move. I think he had more fun than the bride and groom that night!
In order to keep myself honest and accontable, I’m going to post weekly updates until I reach goal. I worked out 5 times last week, 1 workout short of goal. My body (especially my hip) were keeping me up at night hurting. I really think I have bursitis in my hip and I’m very happy about it. The more I move, the more it hurts. Urgh! Anyway, I lost 2 lbs. last week and I’m happy about it. Especially since I had two social gatherings, one to Jose Pepper’s (god I love that place) and one bbq at my sister’s house … all involved Margarita’s. How does one do social gathering without blowing it? My friend Jennifer NEVER over-eats at these occasions, how does she do it? What goes on in her mind? I must ask and get back to you.
On the hubby note, he said to me last night. I know you’re thinking about your reunion in a few months, are you going to freak out and start dieting (I didn’t tell him of my goal and what I’ve been doing)? Do you want my help? hmmm, do I want your help … still thinking on it honey. I would rather not hate you.
Is it too much to ask, I mean really? I have a BBQ to go to today and I just want a cute sun dress to wear; all my friends have seen me in the same clothes for what seems like going on FOREVER. So we head to Kohl’s and we’re not there 2 minutes and Marrick’s grabbed a stuffed animal and is tearing the tag off. Mind you he already has this stuffed animal; he received the monkey in the mail this morning from his Aunt Nessa. Anyway, we head to the jr’s section, because for some deranged reason I think I might be able to wear something from the 40 square foot section of the store and actually look good in it. I think I’m slipping, but that’s not the point here. Of course Marrick is climbing in and out of all the rounders disrupting not only my shopping, but all the other women (who can actually wear these clothes) shopping spree. I’m going come on Marrick, come on, and all the while I sound like I’m talking to a stray mutt I’m coercing into kennel so I can shuttle him off to the pound. Really?
Great idea, the dressing rooms, at least he will be confined there. While I am trying on these size M’s and cringing, Marrick is standing on the bench throwing his gorilla up in the air. OK, it keeping him busy right? Until is lands close the edge of the dressing room and he peeks underneath at the lady beside me, thank god she was nice and just laughed.
Once I decide it is way too much to ask that I actually fit into clothes from the cute section of the store, I head on out to the regular, middle-aged, oh-so-boring clothes section to look around. Nope, not going to happen, I’m about the snap and actually leave my child behind in a dressing room, so I leave, sans clothes. No cute clothes, no ugly clothes, no clothes at all. Wearing the same wardrobe is so much better than being arrested by children’s protective services. Oh, and I survived the BBQ in the same old clothes.
Is it just me? Have a done such a poor job at disciplining my child that I can’t expect more out of him? Is it his age? Somebody give me some tips, I need a little shopping sanity. Oh, and leaving him at home isn’t an option, Daddy works weekends.
The shoot went great, Marrick was awesome. Awesomely cute!

Marrick getting set up for shot.
We got there and headed to the trailer (make-up, catered lunch, etc …), had to hang out a while due to the rain. Finally a few hours later the photographer got the lighting set-up inside and we were ready to go. They put Marrick on the couch with the book they are advertising for, it’s one that you talk into and then push a button and it plays back. While they are setting up I ask if I can take a picture and they say not while he’s shooting and I say of course not, just when they are setting up. What am I, new? Anyway, he was saying “I’m a cool dude!” and then giggling and smiling in just the perfect way when he heard his voice back. And of course the book was propped in his hands perfectly so you could see the cover and title. I mean duh, he’s a professional. The photographer then takes the memory card and pops it into his computer to check out the shots he got, OMG they are even cuter than I thought they would be. I say how great they are to the photographer and how they would make a great Christmas card (it’s a Christmas book with a tree in the background). I then ask if he’s local since we hire freelance photographers all the time. A few short minutes later the producer comes up and asks if I can wait in the trailer for the remainder of the shoot. I was kicked off the set!!!!!!! I was like, did I upset somebody? She was like, the photographer is just kinda mumble, mumble, mumble … god forbid someone is friendly and they compliment your work. Hey dude, get off your high-horse. Artist, I swear! Don’t they know how cool I am? Don’t they know I’ve been a very important video producer in this town for the last ten years. Don’t they know I ’m not your typical stage mom? I mean really, I was so embarrassed.

I got this shot when I was banished to the basement!
Needless to say, Marrick may or may not be asked to model for Hallmark again. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it felt. He did perform perfectly; I was so very proud of him.
Moral of the story, if you’re not the producer on the set, might be best just to keep your ass in the trailer with the rest of the stage moms parents! Lesson learned. Man being a friendly extrovert is hard some times.
