Yes, while I was being a big-fat blogging slacker, Marrick turned 4. Here are some of the photographs Aunt Kelly took, as usual they are awesome.
I’m certain I’ve probably lost most of my WordPress skills, I better get back on here before I forget everything!
My life has been nothing short of crazy lately. I’m working in a new position and have been in learning/running as fast as I can mode. Good and bad. I’m loving the challenge, but hate the feeling that I don’t have a full grasp on what I’m doing. I also hate the feeling that things are falling through the cracks and I let my team down. I’ve had a roller-coaster of emotions, from the highs to the lows, to a numbness in between.
My new position is that of brand strategist. I coordinate efforts between all the creative teams to assure the brand and message of the client are consistent across all mediums. I also work closely with client services and the client when coming up with the messaging. We have been challenged with coming up with many new branding campaigns and the teams have done an amazing job. I’ve also been presenting our campaigns to clients as well. This is awesome, I’m getting a lot of practice giving presentations and it’s certainly rewarding to have a client appreciate all the hard work that went into the campiagn. I can’t wait until we start rolling some of this out into the market! I will let you know if and when the roller-coaster slows down, at this time it’s like fire-in-the-hole!
I saw a movie this weekend that made me think or better yet, change my thinking. Every now and then a person (me) is slapped in the face with a touch of reality. It makes me go, really Beth, does it matter if the Quinton doesn’t do the dishes (laundry, dinner, etc…) as much as you would like, or if you don’t have that deck on the back of your house, or you can’t afford to get highlights in your hair, or you can’t experience Greece from a yacht. Let’s just say this is grateful Sunday!
I’m grateful for:
- A house to live in … a nice one!
- A wonderful family.
- The chicken dish I have simmering in my crock-pot.A job I like and that I make decent money doing.
- All the hand-me-downs my friends have given me for Marrick.
- The neighbor kid Marrick has to play with … even though he will always think he is smarter, faster and better than my son. (We know different)
- Great friends.
- Garnier hair color.
- Jeans that make my butt look a bit smaller.
- OK, I’m starting to get shallow again, I will stop now.
I could go on and on, let’s just say I have a great life and I’m happy grateful. What are you grateful for?
Oh, and go rent Slumdog Millionaire, it’s a great movie.

OK, I have a lot to catch up on … I haven’t posted since before vacation, so let’s start there.
Vacation, our trip across the great country state called Texas. It started in Houston on a cold and rainy Saturday, there were sick kids, emergency trips to the dr.’s office, and more wet and cold weather. Yet we still managed to have a great time. Marrick and Aiden played great together, they even had a giggle fest that had us all rolling with tears. Once the weather cleared up we headed to the Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaur exhibit, still Marrick’s most memorable moment of the trip. Oh, and the fact they had a McDonald’s inside was a huge selling point for him.
We then made a dash for San Antonio early Wednesday morning and made it to Sea World right when they were opening. The day couldn’t have been more perfect, temp about 75 and clear, blue skies. The dolphins were perfect, Shamu devine. The staff and planning for the spring break crowds a big, fat thumbs-down. We existed on a bag of popcorn and pop for the day because the lines for “real” food were way too long. About half way through the day Marrick fell asleep in Quinton’s arms and snoozed for a while, a good thing since we had many more hours of walking to go. After Sea World we checked into the Holiday Inn Express by the River Walk and then headed out to explore. We hit a lovely Mexican restaurant (I know, how could we not) and had a few delicious margaritas, yum. While walking back to the hotel we came upon those types of fountain that shoot up out of the ground. I think this was my favorite part of vacation; just watching the shear joy on Marrick’s face as he ran through was priceless.
The next day we headed to Dallas to visit Quint’s sister Ann, brother-in-law Fred, and nephew Clayton. This was very nice and relaxing, good food, good drink, and good company. They are just good people and a joy to be around; I really wish they lived closer.
While vacationing I was thinking about a new position at work I was offered. I was approached and asked to be a brand stategist for our clients. This means I will be working with all Pform’s creative teams to ensure the message and branding our clients want is being delivered. Of course I took the position (with great angst, since I was really loving what I was doing) and I’m back into search and discovery mode. The on-the-job training I’ve received at PlattForm is amazing, I just keep getting opportunity after opportunity. Wow. I think this is the best one yet, I hope I can fulfill expectations.
Let’s see, what else have been happening? Class reunion planning, Easter, and snow. Winter must be gone … and soon!
Today one of our activities was finger painting, what a yummy mess!

Now this killed 10 minutes of entertaining for the day.

Look Ma, messy hands!

What do you mean I have to clean this off! Waa
There are a few other blogs I’ve been following and I want to share, they are awesome.
#1 Gool ‘ol Miss Linda out of Seattle, she’s says it like it is. I love her and want to be her best friend or at least go and get pedi’s with her. Read back a ways, she will make your life seem “normal” and all the crazy daily shit that goes on in your life funny! All & Sundry
#2 This is a new one I’m reading and I think it promises to make me laugh out loud as much as Linda does. Dooce
I’ve notices a commonality between the two, they both love to cuss, which in some odd way makes me happy. I’m not the only trucker mother out there who needs her mouth washed out with soap!
#3 Now this post had me snorting at work, if you’re on facebook you have to read it. 2birds1blog
Enjoy!
I’m off to enjoy a day of girlie fun. I’m hitting the gym, going to lunch with Stacey and Steph (I haven’t seen them in forever) and then I’m heading to a wedding shower. Sounds like a great, low calorie day! Ha The best part is my step-daughter is moving into her own apartment in a week and wants money and groceries, so she’s coming out to clean the house today in return. A day with the girls AND a clean house, heaven!
And no, I’m not talking about my husband! I’m talking about the amount of weight I still want to lose to reach my goal – 13 lbs. 13 pounds doesn’t sound like much in the grand scheme of things, slow and steady and in 6 or 7 weeks I should be there. I was thinking about all the things that weigh about the same and I just keep coming up with food analogies … I must be really hungry! Let’s see a turkey or a large ham, which is what’s sitting on my hips, ass, and thighs.
If I never have far to go to reach my goal, how come I never get there? I’ve dreamed of a hot body with 20% body fat for years, I must get there before menopause (Am I really worrying about menopause? Holy cow!) sets in or I never will. I’m so sorry I keep obsessing about this. My mother says I have body dysmorphic disorder, my husband says that’s why I’m in pretty good shape. I think they are both right; I’m a little crazy and a little in shape! I have been using the most awesome website to track food and fitness, it’s called The Daily Plate and I highly suggest it. It’s soooo easy to use and it’s FREE! Check it out.
This week was pretty OK. The highlight of my week was getting concert tickets for Keith Urban and Sugar Land for June 11th. Me and my friend Lori are going to road trip into St. Louis and meet my sister Laura for the concert, I can’t wait. Valentine’s dinner was delicious, if I do say so myself. I made chicken Marsala and pumpkin pie (Q’s favorite). I only had a few bites of mashed potatoes and pasta and then a little sliver of pie and I was a pound up today, crap. If I’ve gained weight tomorrow for the biggest loser weigh-in I’m going to be pissed. I guess it’s time to head to the gym and sweat off yesterday. Losing is SO hard! I am gaining strength though, I just did 10 straight-legged push-ups.
To those single people out there, enjoy your Sunday mornings with a cup of coffee and the newspaper, before you know it you will be up at 6:30 am playing kiddo Sequence. Oh the fog!
Why is it all week long I can think of funny things to write on my blog, but by the time I get around to it I have lost every witty thought in my head?
Random thought:
I need soft water or a maid, my kid has been practicing writing in the soap scum on the shower door. Seriously. Any tricks out there on enjoying house work? I need a few.
Just a few more pics of my kiddo with dinosaurs (surprise) and at Wonderscope. Not sure why they call this place a museum, the oldest thing they have are toilet paper rolls for the kids to do projects with. Now that just grosses me out a little.
- Dino castle
- Watering plants
- Hey Marrick, have some cake!
- Next in line please
- My child is an astronaut!
My goals update for this week:
Health – Been working out consistently for 6 weeks now, feeling really good and getting stronger. Yay! My friends at work have been a huge motivating factor, thanks ladies. I feel like
Marrick – Just about over whatever bug he had, no more fever.
Quinton – getting along well this week, I have chosen my no nag attitude and left the dishes in the sink … and the laundry in the basket … and the …
Extended Family – I really, really, really wish I could scope Laura Lee up and take care of her. This crap is not fair and she is too sweet to go through all that she does. Maybe she should become “bad” so we can at least justify all this. (Divorce crap this week, her lawyer is a shitty ass piece of … you get the picture) Luura, go raise some cane girl!
Work – Good.
Charity – My charity has been me!
Fun – My fun has been finding ways to eat low-carb for a few weeks. Now doesn’t that sound like fun? Trying to “shock” my body into losing and I’ve never giving this Atkins/South Beach thing a fair shake. I will let you know how it goes. I’m on day 4 now, never made it this long in the past.
I will post pics this week, promise. I’m also making a resolution to blog at twice a week instead of sitting on facebook.
